Look Younger with a Few Celebrity Tips

Looking and feeling younger can be achieved easily if we take the time to invest in ourselves. I know we all get busy with work, family and life, however if we follow a few simple steps we can take 5 years off our look. I know I would love to look younger without spending a lot of money or utilizing plastic surgery. So what are things any of us can do to shave those years off?
Softening the hair color is a big factor. So many of us when we’re younger over dye or bleach our hair. However as we age we have to soften the color, giving it more of a flattering tone, rather than going for dramatic color. Also consider changing the style of your blue jeans to flatter your figure. Look for jeans that have a 2% or higher stretch so they hold their shape better.
Residents of Polaris Crossing apartments have so many options for pampering and shopping, all within a few minutes. Mia & Maxx at Polaris Fashion Center has monthly specials, making it more cost effective to maintain beautiful hair. When shopping for jeans, stop by Gap to see the latest collection of blue jeans for all figures. Being conveniently located is a great asset of the community, making it easy to stop by for a little pampering day or night.

If you’re car shopping it never hurts to dream big right? At least in my opinion I think we can all dream of a car that goes 0-60 in 2.6 seconds, has gull wings and rare. Well, here’s the list of the top 10 most expensive cars in the world for 2010. It includes a Porche, a Mercedes and of course a Bugatti. If you love cars then you’ll want to pause at the beauty of these vehicles. They are sleek and perfectly engineered.
After I dreamed and drooled over these cars for a bit I was reminded of an anonymous quote: “No dream comes true until you wake up and go back to work.” So I guess that’s my cue to get to work. Enjoy dreaming!

Discover Eco-Friendly Furniture

The buzz words these days are renewable, recyclable and sustainable. If you are looking to become more environmentally friendly these concepts are on your mind when shopping for apartment home decor. Fortunately there are a growing number of designers and stores carrying eco-friendly products for the home.
One of the leading retailers providing rugs, furniture and decor made from reused items is Ikea. The store in West Chester, OH is a two hour drive from Westerville. It’s close enough for a day trip of shopping sustainable items, perfect for every home. Closer to home in Dublin, is Generation Green, an eco-friendly decor store next door to Trader Joe’s.
If you prefer to stay home and shop online, visit Etsy for some beautiful items from around the world. Each designer uses reclaimed wood and metal, saving our natural resources from being over used. A few of my favorites include the Steel Z Table. It’s made from 75% recycled steel and features 12″ discs, perfect for small spaces. I also love the slim wall table made from Reclaimed Cedar. It has a summer cottage feel and would be beautiful in an entry or hall way. And of course, who wouldn’t love the Wood iPod Charging Station made from reclaimed wine barrels.
There are so many creative products currently on the market to inspire your apartment home design. Do you have a favorite designer or store for renewable products?
DIY Project Turns Heads

I enjoy discovering DIY projects that involve recycling old pieces of furniture or clothing. It’s a creative way to take something from average to conversation piece. The other thing I love about DIY projects, they’re a great way to have unique pieces in your home that have character. They enhance the mood by adding texture and depth to other pieces.
Take for instance this idea, from Ready Made and Centsational Girl, that details how to take an antique headboard and create a coat rack. The instruction suggest cutting off the legs but after a lot of consideration, I would leave the legs attached, creating more space for hooks to hang scarves and umbrellas. The project cost approximately $25. for supplies, not including the headboard.
If you need a workshop to create your rare coat rack check out The Columbus Idea Foundry. They offer workshops and rental space for members. If interested, contact them about their $25/month membership and benefits. So start checking out yard sales and thrift stores for your headboard turned coat rack. This is the perfect time to start your project. After all, before we know it, fall coats will come out of hiding.
When Replacing Your Old Boring Dishes is Not an Option.

Are you fed up and bored to tears with your plain, boring dishes? Is a new set within your budget? Here’s a solution when replacing your old boring dishes is not an option.
Visit your nearest Michael’s craft store or go online to Michaels.com and pick up a set of Porcelaine 150 Markers. They come with a flat or bullet tip. If it were me, I’d get both because it gives you more options when designing. Now, go home and get those dull dishes out and create a cute, simple design on them. Then just bake them in a 300 degree oven for approximately 35 minutes. The design is permanent, non-toxic and safe for the dishwasher and microwave.
Visit Apartment Therapy and see what Jennifer from A Merry Mishap designed.

The Best Father’s Day Gift

What do you get for a man who has everything or can just go out and buy it on his own if he wants it. Does he really need another tie? What about a new shirt? Socks and underwear? Men can always use those. Should you just buy him a gift card to his favorite sporting goods store?
I can’t tell you how many times I agonized over what to get my dad. Every Father’s Day was the same. When I’d ask him what he wanted for Father’s Day, he’d just look at me, smile and say, “How about just a hug, honey?” What??? Why can’t he just tell me what he wants??? Next, I’d go to mom and drill her for ideas and her response was usually, “How about a tie or a shirt? He can always use those.” Arggghhhhhh!
I always wanted to get Dad something really unique and special…something that would really surprise him! You know what I mean? There were a couple of times I found a gift for him that had the WoW factor, but for the most part, I would ultimately resort to a golf shirt, golf balls, a golf glove or a golf hat. Of course, he loved whatever I gave him.
I guess my Dad was about 60 the year I asked the famous, “What do you want for Father’s Day?’ question. And, his response was exactly the same, “How about just a hug, honey?” It was then I realized just how stubborn I’d been. So, when Dad’s day came, I gave him what he’d asked for the past 30 years of my life…a hug. It was then he told me, “That’s the best gift anyone gave me.”
My point is, no matter what gift you give your Dad, at the end of the day all he really wants is your love, which is free and should be freely given. Have a great day with Dad!

Skate for Hope Benefits Breast Cancer Research

Wow, there is so much stuff going on in our fair city this weekend and one of the most important events is the Skate for Hope on June 19th, 2010 (5:00 pm) at the Nationwide Arena in Downtown Columbus, Ohio. Skate for Hope is a not-for-profit 501c3 organization benefitting Breast Cancer Research.
This beautiful and unique skating event holds a special place in my heart as my aunt was a survivor for more that 40 years. Skate for Hope makes an ambitious effort in their fund raising to support the Stefanie Spielmand Fund at the James Cancer Center, Soleve Research Institute and the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.
Personally, one of my favorite events in the Olympics is Figure Skating so attending this event just adds to my enjoyment of the sport. I can’t wait to see some of the best figure skaters in the world such as Caitlin Yankowskas and John Coughlin, Rachael Flatt, Johnny Weir, Emily Hughes, Keauana McLaughlin and Rockne Brubaker, and Emily Samuelson and Evan Bates!
Because figure skating is a sport that represents the strength of women, Skate for Hope utilizes it to bring attention, resources and education to support the fight against breast cancer. I firmly believe one day we will find a cure, and through the donations received by this event and others, we advance and sustain the hope for an end to this disease.
If you would like more information or to purchase tickets, please visit the website for Skate for Hope.
Make a Donation.
